Rokia Afzal Rahman
(1941-2023)
Rokia Afzal Rahman was a trailblazing Bangladeshi banker and entrepreneur, known as the first female bank manager in Bangladesh. She served as an adviser to the caretaker government in 2001 and worked in banking until 1980, after which she entered agro-business.
In 1994, she founded the Women Entrepreneurs Association (WEA) and later established Women in Small Enterprises (WISE) in 1996. Rahman was also the chairman of the Asian University for Women Support Foundation and held leadership roles in several organizations, including the Bangladesh Federation of Women Entrepreneurs and MIDAS Financing Limited.
She passed away on April 5, 2023, at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital in Singapore, at the age of 82, leaving behind two sons and a daughter.
